CLINICAL STUDY DEMONSTRATES FULL- SPECTRUM IMMUNE SUPPORT

In a 4-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, healthy male and female subjects with low immune status took 500 mg/d of Spectramune or a matching placebo. The study assessed both biomarkers and perceived immune status.

Lymphocytes and IgG

Spectramune improved markers of cell-mediated and humoral immunity.

 

T Lymphocytes

Spectramune improved T lymphocyte populations and the ratio of helper T cells and cytotoxic T cells. Spectramune significantly increased total T cell population, CD4+ T cells, and improved CD4/CD8 balance compared to placebo.

Innate Immune factors and Immune Function

Spectramune increased IFN-γ and improved Perceived Immune Function.

Spectramune supplementation significantly increased serum IFN-γ compared to placebo. Perceived Immune Status improved from baseline in both groups, but the improvement in the Spectramune group was significantly better compared to placebo.

A second double-blind clinical trial demonstrated superior efficacy compared to standard approaches in shortening duration and improving immune outcomes in the respiratory system.

Researchers at PLT innovation partner Laila Nutraceuticals sought to develop a botanical ingredient solution that safely supported both innate and acquired immunity, to help people with a broad range of immune support needs. Researchers screened dozens of different botanicals known from scientific literature and traditional medicine to influence immunomodulatory activity. The plant extracts were tested for their ability to enhance:

  • IL-2 production
  • IFN-gamma production
  • Lymphocyte proliferation in primary human peripheral blood cells

Four plants exhibiting the highest activity on these assays were evaluated in differing combinations until one combination was discovered showed unique synergy: a 1:1 ratio of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).

Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub that grows in India, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. The plant, particularly its root powder, has been used as an adaptogen for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Haritaki, also known as Chebulic myrobalan, is among the most highly esteemed Ayurvedic plant medicines, traditionally used to support immune and digestive health. It is native to South Asia from India and Nepal east to southwest China (Yunnan), and south to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Vietnam. .

The unique Spectramune combination was then shown to support immune function in an experimental model of immunosuppression. Impressive results, combined with an excellent safety profile, prompted the ingredient to be taken into randomized controlled trials in humans, where its efficacy was further validated.
