Dynaleve has been evaluated in 3 pre-clinical and 2 clinical trials In a RDBC crossover bioequivalency study, healthy adults took either 40 mg Dynaleve (31.2 mg AKBA) or 100 mg 5-LOXIN (30 mg AKBA) in random order on separate occasions. Results for AUC (Area under the curve) show similar amounts of total AKBA were absorbed with each product.
The science behind Dynaleve examines a range of issues relevant to sports performance – including comfort, strength, recovery, perception of exertion and biomarkers demonstrating physiological changes. In a 2019 clinical trial, 50 recreationally active men (age 25-40) were studied for their response to eccentric exercise-related Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) using 60mg of Dynaleve versus a placebo. The supplementation period was 10 days with eccentric exercise intervention on day 7, after which recovery was measured on d 8, 9 & 10.
The study demonstrated that daily supplementation of Dynaleve for 10 days results in significant reduction in muscle soreness during squats (muscle recovery) in healthy male participants over placebo. In parallel, Dynaleve supplementation also improved the recovery of strength (1RM leg extension) and knee range of motion when compared to placebo. Notably, Dynaleve supplementation also alleviated knee soreness (joint recovery) in the participants
Relief from Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is exercise-related muscle discomfort and related stiffness that develops several hours to several days after excessive and unaccustomed exercise. The soreness is felt most strongly 24 to 72 hours after exercise. It is particularly prevalent if that exercise has an eccentric component. Eccentric exercise is an activity where the muscles are contracting while lengthening, such as downhill running and long-distance running
Sustainability is Part of the Equation
Dynaleve is made from an extract of Boswellia serrata. To ensure continuity of supply, PLT partner Laila Nutra maintains rigorous standards. Laila’s team of taxonomists and ethnobotanists have in-depth understanding of plant physiology & ethnobotany. Laila does not work with plants in the ‘threatened category’ and practices sustainable harvesting.
Education through the forest department ensures sustainable tapping of Boswellia resin. Tribal collectors are trained on sustainable gum tapping methodology for maximizing yield while maintaining safety and health of the Boswellia serrata tree populations. Collectors are also trained on post-harvest handling techniques. In the last five years, Laila has planted over 10,000 frankincense trees in India. Laila and PLT are committed to the safety and fair treatment of the people who harvest Dynaleve resins. We want to support the long-term health and well-being of the tribal culture and the natural environment upon which it relies.
Water Solubility is a ‘Big Deal’
The Dynaleve product form was developed in response to industry requests for a more organoleptically favorable Boswellia ingredient that could power a broader range of product types than just pill-type supplements. Its water solubility and neutral taste properties open the ingredient up to inclusion into a wide range of liquid and solid delivery systems.
The development of this new form was a major technological achievement. Despite its potential use for health applications, the major limiting factor with Boswellia extracts in general and boswellic acids in particular has been their lipophilicity, which makes them completely insoluble in aqueous media. In addition, the extracts containing boswellic acids exhibit very strong turpentine odor and bitter taste. These organoleptic properties severely limit the use of resin extracts only to solid dosage forms (capsules).
Achieving these objectives in a single product using only regulatory-friendly solvents and excipients was a real challenge. This was achieved over a two-year time frame. One of the surprises of this development process was that the final product showed improved bioavailability compared to the regular Boswellia extract containing equivalent strength of AKBA.
